Mont Cenis: road opening and closing

The Mont Cenis pass, and the road that runs from Val Cenis to Susa and Turin in Italy, has been open to traffic since Friday May 16, 2025. In winter, the road is transformed into a ski slope!

Opening of the access road to the Mont Cenis pass (2081 m altitude), and to Italy since Friday May 16, 2025 at 4:00 pm.

While the pass traditionally opens on the 2nd Friday in May, this year the opening has been postponed by a week due to the need for road reinforcement work.

Between France and Italy, the Mont-Cenis plateau stretches to an altitude of 2,000 meters. This exceptional site offers a breathtaking panorama, with its immense turquoise lake, unspoilt mountain pastures, ancient French and Italian forts and peaks rising to over 3,000 metres.

Scheduled to close on November 10, 2025

In winter, the access road to the Mont Cenis pass is closed to traffic. It is transformed into a ski run: L'Escargot, Europe's longest green ski run at 11km.

Normally, the road is closed for the winter season on the 2nd Monday in November, which this year is Monday November 10, 2025*.
