Description

In Val Cenis, a green run lets you ski for 10 km without ever facing a steep slope: the Escargot, the longest green run in Europe.

Its route has a unique feature: it follows the Mont-Cenis Road, which, on clear days, connects Val Cenis to the Mont-Cenis Pass and Italy. When winter and snow arrive, cars give way to skiers, and its wide turns become a long run that gently winds through the mountains and forest.

This exceptional length makes it an ideal place to learn to ski. While many green runs are relatively short, the Escargot gives both children and adult beginners time to practice their technique, work on their lines, and, above all, build confidence. At the start of the run, those first turns may still be a bit tentative; 10 km further down, you’ll already have gained plenty of skiing experience!

The descent is also a journey in its own right. As you navigate the turns, keep an eye out: animals carved from wood dot the trail. Foxes, chamois, bearded vultures… they evoke the species that inhabit the forests, alpine meadows, and skies of Val Cenis.

Several mountain restaurants offer a chance to take a break along the way, have lunch, or simply enjoy the scenery before continuing the descent at a leisurely pace.

Accessible notably from the Ramasse chairlift, the Escargot trail lets you combine learning, long runs, and exploring the mountains. It’s a trail for beginners, certainly, but one you’ll also enjoy revisiting once you know how to ski.
