Under the soothing shade of the trees, the itinerary progresses into the heart of the forest. Here, we guess more than we see: a cracking twig, a falling feather, a light trace in the snow... discreet signs of the fauna that moves with hushed steps.

Tucked away in a clearing is the peaceful, solitary Cabane du Suffet, a haven for dreamers.

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

• 1/ Starting from Le Lièvre, follow signs for L'Abris du Suffet, first on the Route de la Montagne, then on the Piste du Coin.
  2/ 0 h 30 - At the Piste du Coin intersection, continue straight ahead on the forest track to the next intersection, then follow the signs for Abris forestier for about 50 m.
  3/ 1 h 30 - At the Cabane du Suffet, take a break before resuming the route. Then retrace the 50 metres already covered and turn left to join the forest track in the hairpin bend. Follow this track to Le Coin.
  4/ 2 h 10 - At Le Coin, take the narrow path that runs deep into the forest to get back to the Piste du Coin, passing La Fontaine du Coin.
  5/ 2 h 40 - At the junction with the Piste du Coin, head towards Termignon to reach the hairpin bend in the road, the finish point of your itinerary.
  6/ 3 h - Car park at the hairpin bend in the D126 road.
