Exhibition - Termignon through the rocks
From marble canyons to quartzite cliffs, from schist basins to copper mines... Come and discover the geological wealth of the historic commune of Val-Cenis Termignon, the second largest in mainland France!
Description
Situated at the interface of several geological units, the immediate surroundings of Termignon are a great place to embrace the diversity of Alpine rocks: calcschist, micaschist, gypsum, "cargneule", limestone, dolomite, marble, quartzite…
Some of these rocks contain a host of metallic ores, which have been extensively researched and exploited in the past – a centuries-old mining history now fading into oblivion.
Discarding complicated words and concepts in favor of images, this exhibition shows the distinctive aspects of our various rocks in the mountainscape.
For those curious to learn more about the illustrated sites, a companion brochure is available from the Tourist Office.
