Saint-Roch's Chapel
St. Roch's chapel was built in 1634 after the great plague of 1629-1630, which decimated a quarter of the population. It houses religious objects, statuary from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as artifacts from Gallo-Roman tombs.
Description
Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian were invoked against the recurring plague epidemics that decimated the population due to travelers and armies passing through Mont Cenis. The plague wiped out a quarter of the village's population.
The Saint Roch chapel is the starting point for "The Paths of History," a vast open-air museum exploring the chapels of Lanslevillard and the lives of the mountain communities of Lanslevillard. The temporary exhibition is dedicated to the weeping woman, the emblematic war memorial of Termignon.
