Ski resorts and sustainable development
Energy management for ski lifts
For better optimization 🚡Ski lifts are used every day by skiers. Indispensable to the resort experience, they also represent a major source of electricity consumption.
Aware of this challenge, the Val Cenis ski area has implemented innovative solutions to reduce their impact: intelligent energy management systems to adjust consumption in real time according to the number of visitors, and heat recovery from electric motors.
These efforts are aimed at lowering the electricity consumption of ski lifts and helping to reduce the carbon footprint of ski holidays.

Protecting flora and fauna
Concrete actions 🐐Preserving biodiversity, flora and fauna, is a key priority for Val Cenis. The ski area is developed taking into account local ecosystemsin collaboration with specialized ecologists and the Vanoise National Park.
Sensitive areas have been identified and protected to limit disturbance from human activities. In addition, concrete actions, such as the relocation of certain plant species or the creation of ecological corridors, help to preserve the natural habitats of animals, such as the quiet zones dedicated to the black grouse. This balancing act between development and protection is essential to ensure the sustainability of the unspoilt Alpine environment of Val Cenis and Haute Maurienne Vanoise.
A 100% electric snow groomer
Val Cenis pioneer in France ♻️In 2023, Val Cenis marked a turning point by becoming the first French resort to integrate a 100% electric snow groomer into its operations. This innovation reduces greenhouse gas emissions, while ensuring optimum operational efficiency.
This ambitious project, carried out in partnership with specialist manufacturers, illustrates the ski area's commitment to investing in sustainable technologies. This technical choice is part of Val Cenis's eco-responsible strategy, Flocon Vertlabel, where every detail counts.

A new chairlift made from recycled material
Les Roches Blanches 🚠To meet the challenges of climate change, preserve the exceptional natural environment of Haute Maurienne Vanoise and offer a high-quality outdoor experience (skiing in winter, hiking and mountain biking in summer), the Val Cenis ski area has set up an innovative project to renew the Roches Blanches chairlift in 2024.
The new chairlift was built using 90% recycled materials. This circular-economy project was also designed to limit the impact on flora and fauna, with work carried out after the bird nesting season.
