Geological curiosity famous for its climbing, thin needle of cargneule with warm shades, yellow ochre, 93 meters high overlooking the forest of Plan Bois. Gateway to the Vanoise National Park.

Description

The Monolithe is the site of the inauguration of the Vanoise National Park and is a developed site. This needle that emerges in the middle of the pines is composed of cargneule, a rock of particularly hard sedimentary origin that has resisted erosion while the less resistant rocks that surrounded it have disappeared. First climbed in 1957, the monolith now attracts thousands of climbers from all over the world to attack this 93-metre giant.
